If someone has arthritis, it may be best to avoid coffee. Although coffee has anti-inflammatory properties that could potentially benefit people with rheumatoid arthritis, studies have shown that it could actually aggravate arthritis symptoms. A study of Rheumatic Diseases found that coffee drinkers may have an increased risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis. Additionally, a higher intake of coffee and decaffeinated coffee was associated with an increased risk of arthritis.
